Ingredients:
- 1 kg fish (pomfret)
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 4-5 cloves crushed garlic
- 1 tsp ginger, grated
- 2 tbsp tamarind pulp
- 2 medium onions, finely chopped
- 2 green chillies, finely chopped
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 tsp coriander powder
- 3 tbsp coconut oil
- 1-1/2 cups hot water
- Fresh coriander leaves, finely chopped
- Salt to taste
How to make Mashli Gashi :
- Clean and wash the fish thoroughly.
- Take off the scales, and leave the skin on.
- Cut the fish into halves lengthwise.
- Sprinkle some salt over fish pieces, cover and keep aside for 15-20 minutes.
- Heat coconut oil in a pan over medium heat and add chopped onion.
- Fry for a while, till onion turns soft.
- Add crushed garlic and grated ginger.
- Saute for few seconds and slow down the flame.
- Add coconut milk, salt and spices.
- Stir constantly, till the milk starts boiling.
- Slowly add hot water and mix well.
- Now add tamarind pulp and fish pieces.
- Garnish with good amount of chopped coriander.
- Simmer the flame and cover the pan.
- Leave to cook for about 10 minutes.
- Flip the fish pieces to cook from another side as well.
- Cook for a further 5-6 minutes.
- Serve hot with rice or roti
